Benalla Mural

The project began in 1983 as a small group of people considered options for a community arts project for the town. The initial design phase involved considerable creative input by the architect as well as input from the wider community garnered from a series of meetings. The mural incorporates an amphitheater, sound pipes and seating for performances. Curvilinear design is second nature to potters and ceramic artists, based on forms occurring in the natural world, and influenced by potter\'s wheel. The two circular forms of the mural symbolize the classical Greco-Roman amphitheater joined to the eastern yin-yang symbol.
