Good design negotiates how much change the neighbourhood character can accomodate. What are the Heritage and Contemporary Design compatibilities and interfaces? Setbacks and roof forms are critical. This site sits half way between old Williamstown and the new Urban Renewal area of the Riflerange. No 1 Kokoda Rd cnr Bayview is a dual occupancy redevelopment on the Post Second War Housing Commission Housing Estate for Returned Soldiers. The corner site presented an opportunity to create a maratime outlook tower reminiscent of other similar towers in Williamstown. Passive Solar Design was pursued to provide larger North Elevations with seasonal sun control to the solar gain windows. Articulation of the Bayview St Elevation and First floor Roof forms makes for a friendly neighbour.
